How long have you been running with CRC?
1 year 8 months
What made you start running?
A friend of mine passed away 2 years ago and she taught me that life is about living. To not waste a moment. If you have ever wanted to do something just do it. So I ran 100 miles in March for Young Lives vs Cancer and trained for 1 leg of the Belfast marathon in 2023 since then I just wanted to keep running.
What motivated you to take that first step into running? What was the biggest challenge you faced, did you have any low points, and how did you overcome any challenges you faced?
I decided to train for the Belfast Marathon in 2024. Which was a daunting task as at this stage I could only run 6km. But I was very determined and decided to join CRC. I met the most amazing friends. I was motivated by the wonderful coaches who all believed in me. I overcame sore knees, ankles and just stuck to the training plan.
Have you noticed any improvements in your fitness, mental health, or overall well-being?
Since taking up running I now see running and fitness as part of my daily life. I am so much happier. I feel that I can manage home and work life so much better now that I have made time for me.
What has been the most rewarding moment of your running journey so far?
Running the Amsterdam marathon last October was really special to me. It just made me realise how far I had come. It was a dream come true. I had twins 5 years ago and had a very difficult pregnancy. I never thought I would be able to run or feel myself again. It was honestly crazy thinking that now I was going to run an international marathon.
Have you made new friendships or connections through running?
I have made the most wonderful friendships through CRC. It is so refreshing to run with people who lift you up and support you. We call it running therapy.
What is your proudest running achievement so far? Do you have any future running goals or races or targets planned?
I am running marathon number 4 in May in Belfast where I hope to get a PB and raise some money for charity. I am also running Dublin marathon in October. After that I intend to keep on running.
