Membership is open to all individuals, regardless of sex, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or political opinion, except as a necessary consequence of the requirements of the sport.
All membership applications will be brought forward to the Committee for confirmation by a simple majority vote.
The Committee may refuse membership, suspend it or remove it, only for good cause such as conduct or character likely to bring the Club or sport into disrepute. A member shall have the right to be heard by the Committee before a final decision is made. Any persons whose membership is refused or removed will be told the reasons in writing and have a right of appeal.
No, you do not need to be a full member to participate in Couch to 5K. We will register you with temporary membership for the duration of the free programme.
Even if you have never ran before, this fantastic programme will have you running 5km in eight to ten weeks. You’ll make new friends and celebrate at the end with a graduation run at Knockbracken parkrun.
Check out our Facebook pages for regular updates on how to join the ‘Couchers’ programme, speak to any member of CRC or send an email to info@carryduffrc.com.
You can find out more by clicking here.
And if proof was needed, here are some of our fantastic graduates who joined CRC after their amazing success with Couch to 5K!!
As part of your first year membership fee, you’ll get a new shirt or vest – the choice is yours.
Here are some of our runners at the 2023 Newry Half Marathon modelling them. Click here for more details.
You need to be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time you apply. Like all club rules this is kept under review and should this or any rule change, we will communicate it through our social media channels.
Training (3)
Our large membership runs almost every day of the week and there are always different runs to suit all levels.
There are organised runs from Sunday to Friday and we support the Knockbracken parkrun every Saturday.
Please see a sample of current club training activities on our training page. One of the benefits of joining CRC is that with such a large community of runners you can often arrange your own personal running sessions with likeminded people. Members often put out messages on WhatsApp to enlist runners for other informal runs.
No. While most of us dream of getting faster, the reality is not all of us want to constantly improve. There are folks in our club who get last place at local races, and some that get first. Most of us are somewhere in the middle. Generally speaking there is always someone in front of you and we aim to leave no one behind.
Most people that go to the group runs fall somewhere between a 5 1/2 min to 6 1/2 min per Km pace for an average easy run. Yes, there is usually a group that goes faster than this as well (~5 min pace) but it’s a small minority and you’ll know right away if you can hang with them or not.
Once you join, you will typically fall in with a group of those at similar pace. CRC is not about running fast. Even our fastest runners attend and participate in slow runs as this provides wider benefits.
